This year a project called FATE was started at ZID theater. FATE stands for Future Academy on Tour Europe, and the project is supported by the European Union.
In FATE, creative newcomers in the Netherland, of either a refugee or migrant background, come together to learn extensive skills needed in order to find employment in the Dutch creative sector. The group consists of musicians, photographers, filmmakers, actors, producers, artists and so far of so forth. The group spirid has not been tromped by the coronavirus, and thankfully we have been able to arrange meetings in accordance with the covid measurements.
In the month of March, the group has been separated into smaller teams in order to make a small production. The meaning of this production is to get to know each other better, and get to see how our creative talents fit together. Groups are creating films or performances which will later be presented to the entire group. The assigment has created challenges and a flow of ideas, which is definitely needed during these restrictive times.
In addition to these productions, the group has received a lot of new knowledge. Thursday evenings there are video meetings, in which the participants contemplate their own goals while receiving information from professionals. So far, the visiting presenters have been sharing information about education in the Netherlands, positions which are available or reachable through voluntary work, and specific disciplines within the arts. Every participant has also begun creating their professional pitch.
The productions of March will be presented in the following week. Exciting!
Happy weekend from Amsterdam to all!
Well distanced hugs,
Rosa
